The overarching goal of the Motivate with Movement Program is to connect the brain and body of every student in the classroom. When that connection happens, students are ready to achieve the academic and social/emotional core objectives.
Science shows that movement supplies brain cells with oxygen, promotes the production of new brain cells, and aids in creating new synapses. When students move during lessons it creates pathways for the information to be stored and retrieved at later times.
The Motivate with Movement approach is an innovative way of teaching that not only gets students moving, it gets students thinking. When activities are implemented effectively, the natural by-product is student agency in their own learning. When students are moving they stop becoming passive learners and start engaging in their own creative thinking and problem-solving.
There is no sitting behind a computer or desk with Motivate with Movement. Teachers and students can no longer hide (both literally and figuratively). While this can often be a scary moment for participants, it creates a safe place to interact with classmates while learning. Students who may have never spoken before get the chance to play together - and playing is a great way to make friends!
Motivate with Movement is constantly introducing new content so that students never grow complacement from always knowing what to expect. With each new activity, the teacher will learn how to encourage a student's own self-awareness of the emotions (nervous, excited, worried) that they may be feeling and help them build the resilience to participate anyway. Through this ownership of their own experience, along with encouragement from teachers and classmates, Motivate with Movement builds academic, social and emotional self-confidence.
Put aside all the success that Motivate with Movement has with academic achievement and social emotional learning for just a moment and you will find that it all boils down to fun. Fun for the students and fun for the teachers - something everybody has been craving desperately. This fun translates into better moods, happier staff and students, better relationships within the building. In a nutshell, when a building is utilizing the Motivate with Movement Program, climate and culture will be positively impacted.
